Borrowing Privileges

Current Bethel faculty, staff, and students are able to check out materials from the Bowen Library by presenting their Bethel ID card.

Faculty, staff, and students from a PALNI member school or from the University of Notre Dame or Holy Cross College may also check out materials from the Bowen Library by presenting their institution’s ID card.

The Bowen Library does provide a Special Borrower’s library card to certain categories of potential borrowers. Bethel alumni, clergy, and homeschool families may apply for a Special Borrower’s library card at no cost. The general public may apply for a Special Borrower’s card for an annual fee of $10

Loan Periods and Fines

Books from the Main collection circulate for 60 days.  Audiovisual material and bound periodicals are loaned out for 14 days. There is a 4-week grace period after which a $10 Overdue fine and a Replacement fee are assessed. The Replacement fee will be waived if the item is returned.

Reference books and Course Reserve items have shorter loan periods. Reference books are loaned out for 3 days. Course Reserve items have loan periods of 1 Hour, 2 Hour, 1 Day, 3 Days, or 7 Days; and the loan period is chosen by the professor of the course. Fines for shorter loans are $.50 per hour for hourly loans and $1 per day for daily loans.

Special borrowers do have a shorter loan period. They may borrow items from the Main Collection for 4 weeks.

Different loan periods apply for faculty and staff.

Renewals

Students may renew their material once. Faculty and special borrowers are allowed two renewals. Renewals may be performed by either logging in to the library catalog< or by filling out the online renewal form.

For material that is available at another library, the Bowen Library provides several options to allow you to get the material that you need. You may:
