Dr. Otis Bowen was Indiana's 44th governor, serving from 1973 to 1981, and he served as Reagan's Secretary for Health and Human Services from 1985 to 1989. Born in Rochester, Indiana, Dr. Bowen went on to attend Indiana University's medical school. He did his residency at South Bend's Memorial Hospital and served his country in the U.S. Army's Medical Corp in the Pacific theatre. After the end of World War II, he settled in Bremen, Indiana and began his medical practice. |

The Otis & Elizabeth Bowen Library also houses the Bowen Museum. The museum contains various items related to Dr. Bowen's long career in public service. Included in the collection is Dr. Bowen's medical bag and medical paraphernalia, various gifts given by well-wishers, and a collection of political cartoons. |
